The Jane Austen International English Language Olympiad is an international academic competition designed to encourage excellence in English language learning, communication and critical thinking.

These regulations establish the general principles governing participation in the Olympiad and apply to participating students, schools, teachers, coordinators and other authorised representatives.

The Olympiad is open to eligible school-age students participating through a registered school, educational institution or authorised competition partner.

Participants must compete in the appropriate category according to their age and the official eligibility requirements applicable to the competition year.

Schools and authorised representatives are responsible for ensuring that participant information submitted during registration is complete and accurate.

Participants are organised into five categories reflecting their age group and the corresponding expected CEFR language proficiency range.

The Jane Austen International English Language Olympiad is structured as a progressive international competition.

Competition assessments are designed to evaluate English language competence appropriate to each category and may include comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, language use, written communication and other age-appropriate competencies.

Assessment standards are aligned with internationally recognised principles of English language proficiency, including the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

The format, duration and scoring methodology may vary according to category and competition stage.

Participants must follow all instructions issued by authorised supervisors, invigilators and members of the Organising Committee.

During supervised assessments, participants may not receive unauthorised assistance or use prohibited materials, devices, software or communication tools.

Schools and competition centres are responsible for maintaining appropriate examination conditions and ensuring the integrity of the competition process.

The Olympiad is founded on fairness, independence and academic integrity. All submitted work and assessment responses must represent the participant's own performance.

Cheating, impersonation, unauthorised collaboration, manipulation of results or any other attempt to gain an unfair advantage may result in disqualification.

Results are determined according to the official scoring criteria established for each competition stage and category.

Qualification thresholds for subsequent stages may vary depending on competition format, participation levels and official criteria established for the relevant competition year.

Decisions concerning official results and qualification are validated by the authorised competition bodies.

Participants may receive official certificates, distinctions, medals or other forms of recognition according to their performance and the stage of the competition reached.

Awards and distinctions may differ between the School Round, National Round and International Final.

The Organising Committee reserves the right to invalidate a participant's result or disqualify a participant in cases involving serious breaches of these regulations, academic misconduct, false registration information or behaviour that compromises the fairness or integrity of the competition.

Where an official appeals procedure is available, requests for review must be submitted through the authorised school, coordinator or competition representative within the communicated deadline.

The Organising Committee may establish specific procedures, deadlines and eligibility requirements for appeals at each competition stage.

The Organising Committee may update these regulations when necessary to protect the quality, fairness, security and international integrity of the Olympiad.

Competition-specific information, including dates, examination procedures, qualification criteria and operational instructions, may be communicated separately for each competition year.

Participation in the Jane Austen International English Language Olympiad constitutes acceptance of the regulations applicable to the relevant competition stage.
